What's Your "Power Song"?
The minute she asked the question I knew I wanted to write about it.
There are a couple of reasons:
If I’m being honest I want to brag a little because the question was fun and lovely and shows layers of depth in her psyche.
It’s just fun to think about and then share the answers with you and see if you’ll share your answer back with me.
Before the weather took a turn towards autumn here in Colorado the 4 RL’s were sitting at the table finishing dinner. The sun was still shining through our dirty dining room windows and Dayli asked some version (I wish I could remember her exact words) of the question, “What song do you listen to to make you feel powerful?”
GREAT question, right?!
Later when we asked her why she posed this question she replied that she thought it would help us have a good conversation. Completely true.
We went around the table and shared our songs. Not only did we each share a song but we shared our “why” and “how” it empowered us and we listened to each person’s piece of music. And it was magical.
If you have children that ever sit around your dining table and you have never asked this question, please do. If you have other adults that join you for a meal ask them! I think we have the opportunity to cultivate a killer song list.
That said, I think it would be SO amazing if you would just reply with the title of your Empowerment Song. Perhaps Torn Curtain will compile a playlist that we can all share.
Empowerment must come from within and from without oneself. We are stronger together so give us your songs!!
Winter is a time of cold and darkness and death. The earth is hard, plants and trees become introverts as they shed their leaves and colors and stay silent and quiet so they can unleash themselves next spring. It often is the same for humans. We are cold. We can become hard without the warmth and color of life.
Let’s create a playlist that warms our hearts and minds as we think about each other this winter and keep ourselves thawed so we don’t get too cold.
