Introducing Brian Davis
Hello, new friends! My name is Brian Davis, and it is a dream come true to be partnering with Torn Curtain Arts. Paul & Christa and I have known each other for just over 20 years. We met during our freshman year of college at CCU, and we’ve been stuck with each other ever since. We’ve sung together, danced together, acted together, Paul and I have been roommates (twice) and experienced the best and worst of ministry and life together. It is an honor to call them my friends, and I’m so grateful to them for giving me this opportunity to join in the vision of TCA.
Paul asked me to write the February update and told me I could write about “whatever I want.” So, I thought I’d start by telling you a little bit about what got me here. I’ve been serving the local church in the Denver Metro area for 20 years, leading worship in churches from Aurora to Golden, and Lafayette to Littleton. For the past six years, I had been on staff as a worship leader at Mission Hills Church. But in February 2017 I could sense the all-to-familiar feeling of ministry burnout coming on, so I made the decision to step away from that full-time position, create some space, and see what God might have in store for the next stage of my ministry career. I have continued my relationship with MHC on a contract basis, and in January of this year took on a part-time position as the Worship Arts Director at New Denver Church, a community I’ve developed a strong relationship with over the past seven years.
While considering all of these changes, Paul and I began a conversation about what it would look like for us to partner together in ministry. I was living with Paul and Christa when they first started Torn Curtain, and, as a fellow artist working in the church, I always saw the value of encouraging and empowering the Body of Christ to make more and better art. I had the opportunity to join them for a couple of performances in the early days of TCA and was able to commission Paul to create a short video for the Christmas Eve services at one of the churches where I worked.
While I have some limited experience in dramatic and visual arts, my main area of expertise is music ministry (as you probably could have guessed). My hope is to bring my experience as a worship leader and pastor to Torn Curtain to further serve the Church by encouraging other worship leaders to create worship experiences that challenge and motivate, that make the most of the songs they sing together AND moves their communities past the songs to a more holistic view of worship, art, and life.
In addition to all of the above, I am a husband to Jess, a father to Madeleine, Lily, and Seraphim, a songwriter, a home chef who may or may not narrate what I’m cooking when I’m home alone, I watch WAY too much TV, and have NOT seen the new Star Wars movie. I’m a Colorado native who did not grow up anywhere near the mountains. I have a band that leads worship and makes music that we hope encourages people to continue moving forward in their brokenness and to seek healing in community. You can find out more about that at www.briandavisband.com and maybe pick up some of our music.
I’m looking forward to sharing more about my heart and my life with you in the months and years to come, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity to be a part of TCA. Thanks for reading this…talk to you soon!
